About ISDW 2024
What is the ISDW?
What is the ISDW?
Students need to understand various cultures and perspectives to work on solving more global problems. In this workshop, students from various design fields communicate and work with each other using English as a common language.
Additionally, group fieldwork is important in terms of sharing different cultures. A goal of the ISDW is to help young people who want to become designers connect with the world and prepare better for the future global society.

ISDW 2024

This year's workshop was scheduled for two days of fieldwork (the yellow part of the figure) and five days of production.
Students needed to create works as a team to make posters and videos explaining their ideas and slides to use when giving their final presentation.
However, in order for them to come up with a solution, they must first understand the current problems. For this reason, specific ideas were generated through lectures from sponsors and food manufacturer factory tours.
Design Theme
In a world where resources are finite and the impact of climate change is increasingly evident, adopting circular design principles in food systems is essential. With this in mind, the theme of this ISDW was "circular food design".
This workshop aims to explore the application of circular design to create sustainable, resilient, and efficient food systems. By rethinking how we produce, consume, and dispose of food, we can minimize waste, reduce environmental impact, and create a healthier planet for future generations.
Twelve groups worked this theme to create new designs. The students first learned the business model that they could refer to. The students were given the keys to ideas that could solve the problem.
